Prepmaster Software

PrepMaster Core

The PrepMaster Core is designed to guarantee top functional laboratory standards, user-friendly GUI and scalability. The PM architecture has an open design with interfaces not only to  HERZOG components but also to other third-party machines, analyzers, and level 2 systems.

Sample Managment
The PM Core has been specially designed for the requirements of sample preparation. Accordingly, the PM software concept is based on the sample routing from the sampling point to the analyzer. PM Core is optimized to provide quick, safe and efficient preparation of all different sample types. The system enables the smooth processing of high sample loads and complex preparation procedures. Priority management with various priority levels is deeply integrated into the software.

Interface
HERZOG cooperates with nearly all other manufactures of automation components in the different markets. That is why all instruments necessary for the optimum sample preparation including third-party machines, handling systems, analyzers (XRF, OES, CNS, radioactivity etc.), and sensory systems (balances, grain sizer, optical systems etc.) can be integrated. PM Core comes with a rich library of drivers. Most interfaces are available out of the box or can be easily configured. HERZOG has extensive experience in connecting to level 2 systems and higher-level LIMS. Such, embedding PM Core in the existing IT environment is without problems.

Graphical User Interface
PM Core uses a GUI where you have an excellent overview of all current, processed or queued samples in the system. We use a clearly arranged color and symbol coding so you can see the status of samples, machines and processes at a glance. All relevant information and functionalities are just a click away and can be drilled down to the bottom level. All views can be easily customized according to your requirements.
The use of web clients for display of PM information and terminal functionality like, e.g., sample registration is taken for granted. All web interfaces and processes are based on an encrypted SSL TCP/IP standard.

Easy Configurability
Using the Integrated Development Environment (PM IDE) it becomes very easy to compile configuration and routing files for your automation. By using this powerful tool even the operator can easily do basic changes. PM IDE comes with an extensive set of drivers and interfaces. Subroutines for standard procedures can be dragged and dropped from a library. Before releasing the updated program PM IDE automatically performs a sanity check of every modification to avoid logical or formal errors in the sample routing.

Adaptive Behaviour
PM Core processes are adaptive and responsive at all levels. Preparation worksheet can be modified online based on incoming analysis results or sensory data. To mention but a few specific examples: If sample material processing did not yield the desired results PM Core automatically chooses other preparation routes or recipes. Based on optical analysis systems, the optimal target coordinates for chemical analysis are calculated for each sample. Handling systems like robots are adjusted accordingly.

Serviceability
PM Core includes a full set of secure teleservices including remote support, remote diagnosis and remote maintenance. For failure safety, the PM provides a wide scope of options from configuration of a backup PC to the implementation of redundant servers.

PrepMaster Entry

The PrepMaster Entry has been designed for smaller automations. PM Entry is based on the same software architecture as PM Core with the same performance level. The price level of PM Entry is significantly lower with integration of one functional sample preparation unit, maximum two analyzers and one sample ID. PM Entry guarantees top functional laboratory standards and an user-friendly GUI.

PrepMaster Analytics

PrepMaster Analytics is the software for ingestion, storage and evaluation of analytical and sensory data as well as process information. PM Analytics is exactly tailored to the requirements of laboratory systems and provides an easy and holistic view on results and key performance indicators of your processes. Due to the flexible software design it is easily embeddable into the software environment of each customer.
PM Analytics uses modern big data frameworks for fast computing of large quantities of individual data points from a diversified array of sources. PM Analytics comes with a fully web-based approach, responsive design, clean and polished dashboards as well as a bunch of reporting and statistical tools.

Data ingestion
PM Analytics offers a wide range of interfaces to all relevant analyzing devices allowing automatic and real-time digestion of analytical results. Interfaces to new analyzers can be easily added or modified according to the requirements of each customer. Sensory data can be directly imported from sensors themselves, machine PLC or PC. Process information like, e.g., preparation time, sample throughput or sample number are transmitted from PM Core.
Data can also be reviewed, changed or entered by the operator according to the assigned user rights. To this end, PM Analytics contain an extensive user management and audit system guaranteeing protection, integrity and recoverability of data.

System configuration
Important system parameters can be easily configured using the system configuration menu. In the configuration menu, the operator can setup data transmission to level 2 systems, determine alarm limits, create a formula for e.g. calculation of pseudo-elements, compile methods for calculation of sample throughput, and many more.

Data presentation
The PM Analytics dashboards visually track, analyze and display key data, metrics and key performance indicators of processes of your laboratory. The dashboards are customizable to meet the specific needs of your laboratory and company. Behind the scenes, the dashboards connect to all data sources and API’s in real-time. On the surface, they display all this data in form of tables, graphical charts and statistical analysis. 
As a matter of course, PM Analytics includes functions like data sorting, filtering, narrowing down, aggregation, and drilling down. Analysis results from different sources like, e.g., for carbon from OES and combustion can be easily compared and analyzed.

System monitoring
PM Analytics provides you with the tools to visualize and monitor the performance of your system. Important key performance indicators like errors and alarms, system up-time, sample throughput, preparation time etc. are monitored online or can be evaluated for historical data. This allows easy identification of bottlenecks and improvement opportunities for better system efficacy.

Tool condition monitoring
PM Analytics offers signal analysis and diagnostic techniques required for Tool condition monitoring. The PM Analytics TCM system is capable of automatic evaluation of the machine status leading to a wide range of different applications. The TCM system can be used to correlate sensor signals with the status of specific consumables like cutting tips of the milling machine. As a result, the TCM system increases the service life of these expensive components. Furthermore, TCM assists in determining the optimal sample condition for analysis. This is especially helpful for samples of varying qualities and quantities. Eventually, the PM Analytics TCM is a prerequisite of completely unmanned operation as it allows the fully-automatic tool supervision and change. By default, TCM algorithms for milling and disc grinding are included into the PM Analytics.

Service and maintenance
The PM Analytics comes with an integrated maintenance scheduler for servicing of laboratory equipment. Maintenance tasks are presented on mobile devices and can be ticked off by the service engineers in charge. The PM Analytics evaluates service efforts for the whole automation and every single component.
For efficient error analysis, PM Analytics automatically buffers important information including videos, parameters or sensor data from the machine. In case of an error or alarm, this information is automatically stored and made available to enable quick troubleshooting. 

PrepMaster IDE

The PrepMaster IDE is the integrated development environment for quick, easy and error-free configuration and programming of automation projects. Due to the use of standardized processes, up-to-date libraries and automatic error detection the PM IDE significantly reduces commissioning time and clients’ costs. The intuitive graphical user interface makes it very easy to create and change projects- both for programmers and users.

The configuration of new projects
The configuration of new automation projects is intuitive and easy. The PM IDE defines all relevant values automatically. If necessary, all values can be easily changed by direct entry or drop-down lists. The PM IDE provides multi-language support with implementation of most common languages. Due to its downward compatibility the PM IDE can simply import and convert elder PrepMaster files from previous projects.

Configuration of automation components
Many machines, components and devices are selected from a rich library using the easy drag & drop function. The configuration files contain all important information necessary for the project. All libraries are centrally stored, can be easily maintained and kept up to date. Configuration files for new components are imported and converted by just one mouse click. All link and network information are clearly listed and directly changeable. Parameters for each machine including positions, status bits and PLC programs can be added, deleted or modified.

Configuration of Worksheets
PrepMaster worksheets include all relevant information for the identification, preparation and analysis of each sample. PM IDE makes configuration of predefined worksheets for specific sample types extremely easy. All relevant worksheet information including sample types, machines and positions are arranged within a few minutes. Furthermore, the PM IDE allows the drag & drop configuration of workflows for each sample type supporting the monitoring of sample routing during operation.

Configuration of sample routing
Due to the intelligent and user-friendly GUI programming of all automatic procedures and operations within the laboratory becomes simple- even for the operator without deep programming knowledge. Furthermore, the use of standardized commands and algorithms increases operational reliability, system uptime and speed. The clear display of the routing commands significantly facilitates program planning, maintenance and modification. The PM IDE is a bidirectional system which allows import of routing files from older PrepMaster projects and conversion into the GUI.

All commands addressing automation components, PrepMaster functions and robot are selected from the library. The user inserts the commands by drag & drop and configures them by a selection list. This is extremely fast and helps to avoid systematic errors and careless mistakes. The robot paths are arranged by selecting start, intermediate and end positions from the position list. The deeply implemented substitution and array functionality facilitates programming and supports the integration of frequently repeated algorithms. Newly programmed commands are simply imported into the library by one mouse click. 

Automatic error detection
The semantic model of the PrepMaster is represented within the PM IDE. The model is produced by the integrated language parser on-the-fly when consuming an input line. This allows an immediate error checking of the routing lines. All errors and inconsistencies are listed and can be directly rectified by the programmer or operator. This approach has been proven to significantly reduce installation and commissioning efforts of automation projects.
